Repairs

19 April 08: Time to catch you up on a number of repairs of varying magnitudes, complexities and durations. Here we have a drum pedal that is part of the Rock Band video game. It is a frail plastic assembly that is quickly rendered inoperable by usage.

Fortunately a robust solution is available from Amazon.com.

Better than new! Much better in fact. Both pedals have been updated; this was a nice father-son project.

This riding lawn mower started the first time for the initial cutting of the season. But shortly thereafter it began to misbehave. I pushed it back to the garage and noted gasoline leaking out of the carburetor. I spent considerable time trying to determine the best way to address this situation, such as borrowing a truck or renting a trailer, but all of my efforts failed miserably! I carried on using this 20" push mower. A study in contrasts: speed and power versus precision and perseverance. Then my neighbor Terry came to my house, hauled off the failed machine, performed all necessary repairs and returned the mower. What would have been a costly repair at a small engine shop has been accomplished by Terry for no charge. My pleas to compensate Terry were denied. So the Lord has met a need in a most extravagant manner. Hats off to Terry: you rock!

Our AquaKids facilities use a teaching aid we call "Islands" to help our little swimmers gain confidence in the water. Periodic repairs are needed, as the pool deck acts as sandpaper as the islands are positioned for classes. Sometimes remodeling is more difficult than new construction. Here is a new island that took me six hours to build! I plan to improve the technical package associated with this island to reduce the time required to create this essential tool.

My Trans Am has been in the shop for two weeks. Every school day I drive right past the car,
eyeing the TA from a distance as I take Aric to school.

Repairs

The Trans Am's brakes have failed. The entire system must be replaced: calipers, master cylinder, lines and distribution block.

The last part is on order from Year One; not sure when this original new part will arrive,
so I just keep my eye on her, humming the 70s classic Baby Come Back
